A day in the classroom, an afternoon with friends

We joined the middle school students today in their lessons at Collège Saint-Marc. The students received a tour of the school and attended both English and French classes. In French class, they studied the finer nuances of argumentation such as identifying the author and audience and locating the thesis and main idea.

In English class, they were interviewed by the middle school students in English and introduced to the whole class by their small group of personal interviewers. The American students then discussed life at BC High in French. It was a warm and dynamic cultural exchange.

At the end of our visit, students met with the director of the “collège” to ask him questions about the functioning of the school. They asked many insightful questions such as: How are religious life and education experienced by students in their school? How many languages do students learn and when do they start? How early do they begin preparing students for the Bac? All in all, it was a lively and engaging conversation about many of the similarities and differences in the two systems.

Lastly, the French correspondents met us at the middle school in the afternoon to grab a snack and quick refreshment at a market close by.
